Closure Of Local Authority Residential Care Homes

EDM number 1276 in 1990-91, proposed by Simon Hughes on 17/10/1991.

That this House notes with concern the proposed closure of 36 residential care homes by Devon County Council as a consequence of central Government underfunding, following the implementation of various Government guidelines with major resource implications for the standards of residential care for elderly people and the introduction of the National Health Service and Community Care Act 1990; and calls upon Her Majesty's Government to make the necessary resources available to local authorities to allow them to carry out their new responsibilities and enable them to offer elderly citizens real choice about the care they wish to receive.
