West Yorkshire Police Funding

EDM number 226 in 1990-91, proposed by Geoffrey Lofthouse on 12/12/1990.

That this House condemns the Government's disgraceful failure to provide adequate resources for the West Yorkshire Police Authority; notes that the Director of Finance estimates that the force needs a budget in 1991-92 of ú105.5 million, net of police grant, just to stand still and that this is ú4 million net, or ú8 million gross, more than the maximum allowed under the proposed capping rules; notes that this will mean that by March 1992 there will be 350 fewer police officers on the streets of West Yorkshire and 200 fewer civilians, no new vehicles and the curtailment of the building programme; and further notes that this is happening when the West Yorkshire crime rate has increased since the Government took office.

This motion has been signed by a total of 16 MPs.
