Allerdale Timeshare (No. 6)

EDM number 275 in 1990-91, proposed by DN Campbell-Savours on 20/12/1990.

That this House believes that the final decision to proceed with the Clifford Barnett offer only came because councillors were unaware that Intercity had been unable to have its offer treated on the same basis as that of Clifford Barnett; notes that Mr Norman Turner of Intercity Properties gave Mr Tony Perry, Allerdale's Chief Executive one of four copies distributed of the development and design brief which Intercity had produced for use in its ú150,000 bid to build the Keswick development without a guarantee from the ratepayers; notes that Mr Perry received this document on 31st August 1984; notes that the honourable Member for Workington in 1989-90, and his researcher, between them interviewed every Labour member of the former Allerdale District Council's Joint Management Team and Keswick Station site sub committee and asked them whether they could recall seeing the Intercity document; notes that in each case the answer was no; further notes that an independent Keswick councillor was also asked the same question as a member of the Station site sub committee and he also denied having ever seen the document; notes that all members of the Council interviewed denied any knowledge of the details of the negotiations with Intercity; believes that the Intercity Development brief, and the details of negotiations with Mr Turner surrounding it, is of critical importance to the value of any enquiry that Allerdale District Council might undertake into the background to the timeshare and spa development; and believes that the truth must come out.
