Failure Of Low Flying

EDM number 351 in 1990-91, proposed by Harry Cohen on 24/01/1991.

That this House notes that low flying has been a tactical failure in the Gulf war; that the Tornadoes have become easy prey for machine gun and anti-aircraft fire when operating at low levels and so more of these ú25 million jets, and tragically their crews, have been lost relative to the other air forces in the Gulf; declares that the low flying exercises repeatedly carried out by the RAF in peacetime at great cost, including of lives, and inconvenience to rural and urban peoples has not been proved overall to have been worthwhile, and that this is due to the blundering blindspot of Conservative defence ministers obsessed with low flying.
