Self-Governing Hospital Trusts: South West Region
EDM number 39 in 1990-91, proposed by Dawn Primarolo on 08/11/1990.
That this House notes that the public consultation process for the eight schemes for opt-out hospitals or hospital units in the South West Regional Health Authority has been completed; further notes that the results of the public consultation are for the United Bristol Health Care Trust in favour 28 against 255, for the East Somerset Trust in favour 51 against 230, for the North Devon in favour 19 against 165, for the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly in favour five against 42, for the Cornwall (Mental Handicap Unit) in favour 10 against 31, and for the West Somerset Trust in favour 23 against 651, showing that members of the public in six of the eight consultations overwhelmingly rejected the opt-out proposals and the remaining two were very close in numbers on a very small participation rate; and therefore calls on the Government to abandon plans to set up these self-governing health trusts in Bristol and the South West Region.
