Independent Newspaper And The President Of Turkey

That this House deplores the unpleasant and offensive remarks made in The Independent on 2nd February about the President of Turkey; believes that criticism of anyone in these terms should have no place in a quality newspaper; believes that such comments are particularly unfortunate at this time when made about the head of state of a country which is a staunch ally in NATO; and calls upon the editor of The Independent to uphold standards in reporting and fair comment for which he and his newspaper are rightly renowned.
