Blood Donations In Scotland

EDM number 405 in 1990-91, proposed by Jimmy Wray on 05/02/1991.

That this House finds it deplorable that the generous blood donations from the Scottish people for the possible emergencies arising from the hostilities in the Persian Gulf should be available to profit-making medical establishments; is aware of the highly commercialised practices of private medicine and its exorbitant fees; and calls upon the Government immediately to issue new instructions, according to powers given by the National Health Service (Scotland) Act 1978, so that the Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service will be able to carry out its responsibilities without the burden of unhelpful duties to a private medicine sector which is costing so much to its own patients and to the National Health Service.

This motion has been signed by a total of 21 MPs.
