Reselection Malpractice In Leith

EDM number 443 in 1990-91, proposed by Ron Brown on 08/02/1991.

That this House recognises that 16 months ago the honourable Member for Edinburgh, Leith won reselection as his party's prospective parliamentary candidate in the first round of a democratic vote against two other nominees; notes that in a subsequent reselection, which was engineered by his opponents, he was excluded from the ballot and a defeated nominee was installed in his place, despite clear evidence of malpractice; further notes that a major trade union has protested about other irregularities; and regrets that Labour's General Secretary has been unable or unwilling to reply to the points raised by the honourable Member's Edinburgh lawyer.
