Coalition Prisoners Of War

EDM number 549 in 1990-91, proposed by Bill Walker on 28/02/1991.

That this House pays tribute to the courage and professional skill of the United Nations Coalition Gulf Force which has brought to an end the occupation of Kuwait by Iraq; notes that the military campaign was planned and executed in a manner consistent with the declared aim of keeping coalition force and civilian casualties to an absolute minimum; and calls upon the Government to introduce measures within the Security Council which are designed to ensure the immediate return of all prisoners of war and in particular to require Iraq to release coalition aircrew prisoners who were lost during dangerous missions against targets in Iraq and Kuwait, including low level sorties which contributed so massively to achieving air superiority and the small number of coalition force land battle casualties.
