Conduct Of The Secretary Of State For Trade And Industry

EDM number 581 in 1990-91, proposed by Brian Sedgemore on 07/03/1991.

That this House condemns the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry for his view that anyone who casts a vote in a general election for a political party other than the Conservative Party is unfit to take part in BBC television and radio programmes on news and current affairs; further condemns the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry for seeking to intimidate the BBC in the run up to a general election; further condemns the Secretary of State for his churlish inability to answer hard-hitting questions which are reasonably expressed and honestly put; further condemns the Secretary of State for showing his contempt for the development of a democratic and pluralist society, happily not yet ossified by yesterday's Conservative ideology; and calls on the Prime Minister to dismiss him.

This motion has been signed by a total of 23 MPs.
