Parthenon Marbles
EDM number 614 in 1990-91, proposed by Tony Banks on 18/03/1991.
That this House notes with great satisfaction the plans to construct the new Acropolis Museum in Athens; understands that the design incorporates a view of the Parthenon; believes that the Parthenon marbles currently on display in the British Museum would provide a dazzling centrepiece for the new Greek Museum; and calls upon Her Majesty's Government to table the necessary legislation enabling the marbles to be returned to Athens where they rightly belong.
