Increase In Yorkshire Water Bills
EDM number 620 in 1990-91, proposed by Alice Mahon on 19/03/1991.
That this House notes that Yorkshire Water's rates bills have been increased by 12.7 per cent, the maximum allowed under the law and three per cent more than the rate of inflation; notes that this will cause real hardship as there is no rebate for water bills; notes that the newly-privatised Yorkshire Water Company is squeezing the consumer for the sake of profits for the private investor; further notes the majority of people oppose the wholesale introduction of water metering which would offend the principle that water, like air, is a community resource not an item to be costed for private gain.
