GOVERNMENT'S DECISION NOT TO IMPLEMENT LEGISLATION ON DISABLED PEOPLE
EDM number 665 in 1990-91, proposed by Tom Clarke on 26/03/1991.
That this House deplores the decision of Her Majesty's Government not to implement Sections 1, 2 and 3 of the Disabled Persons (Services, Consultation and Representation) Act 1986; recalls that these sections were redrafted by the Government and received the full support and commitment of the Minister for Disabled People of the time, now the Secretary of State for Social Security, and of his successor, now the Prime Minister; regrets the manner in which Members of this House were informed in a letter from a member of another place of a decision which will cause extreme dismay and anger to millions of disabled people throughout the United Kingdom; and calls upon Her Majesty's Government either to implement the sections forthwith or to test the will of each House of Parliament by bringing forward legislation to repeal them.
This motion has been signed by a total of 80 MPs.
