Unfair Tax In Calderdale

EDM number 742 in 1990-91, proposed by Alice Mahon on 23/04/1991.

That this House notes that a single person (including a widowed pensioner) living in Calderdale in a back-to-back or other dwelling costing less than ú40,000 will have to pay under the Secretary of State for the Environment's proposed council tax ú264, which is more than a millionaire living in a home costing more than ú160,000 in Westminster, who will only be asked to pay ú171; and further notes that ú264 is more than they would have to pay under poll tax (ú178) and far more than under Labour's better and trustworthy alternative Fair Rates.

This motion has been signed by a total of 29 MPs.
