Conduct Of The Rt. Hon. Member For Henley And The Poll Tax

EDM number 76 in 1990-91, proposed by Alex Salmond on 14/11/1990.

That this House calls on the Right honourable Member for Henley to explain why he voted to impose the immoral and unfair poll tax, un-amended, on the Scottish people, but rebelled over the poll tax legislation for England and Wales; notes that the poll tax is at the heart of the panic in the Tory Party; questions whether the Right honourable Member for Henley, if he replaces the Right honourable Member for Finchley as the Prime Minister, intends to abolish the poll tax in Scotland one year before he abolishes it in England; and further notes that the poll tax is crumbling and that with just one more push in Scotland, provided by Scottish National Party victories in the Paisley North and Paisley South by-elections, the 'Tory tax' will be consigned to the dustbin of history.
