British Aid For The Kurds (No. 5)

That this House gratefully acknowledges that BAA has announced the waiving of all landing charges on aircraft being used for transporting humanitarian relief supplies to the Kurds; recognises that this is a small, if welcome, step to breaking the log-jam of relief supplies that have been collected by voluntary organisations such as British Aid for the Kurds; notes the continued and urgent need for storage space for the supplies donated by tremendous public generosity and for Government sponsored air-lifts to ensure that these and other supplies reach the Kurds; and further recognises that the Disaster Unit of the Overseas Development Administration, whilst working beyond the call of duty, is starved of adequate funding and full logistical back-up and requires extra resources to cope with this and other pressing humanitarian needs.
