Breast Care Nursing
EDM number 889 in 1990-91, proposed by Harriet Harman on 03/06/1991.
That this House notes that one woman in 12 will at some point in her life be diagnosed as having breast cancer; notes that up to one third of these women will suffer severe psychological problems as a result of their illness; recognises that where breast care nurses skills are used in treatment programmes, psychological recovery rates are greatly enhanced; and believes that each health authority, heath board and breast care assessment centre should employ at least one full-time breast care nurse to provide the specialist counselling needed by women who have or think they have breast cancer.
