Cancellation Of The Victory Parade

EDM number 948 in 1990-91, proposed by Ken Livingstone on 12/06/1991.

That this House notes the tasteless and insensitive celebration of the Gulf war in the United States and America, at a cost of $10 million; notes the havoc of environmental destruction and human suffering wrought upon the Middle East by the war; mourns the soldiers and civilians who lost their lives on both sides, as well as the thousands of Kurds and Arabs that have been massacred in consequence of the war; furthermore expresses its concern about the lack of democracy in Kuwait and most other states in the region; and calls upon the Government of the United Kingdom to cancel the "Gulf War Victory Parade' and donate the money saved to alleviate the human misery and the environmental disaster in the Gulf region and to do their utmost to ensure a just peace in the Middle East.

This motion has been signed by a total of 23 MPs.
