HAMPDEN PARK, SCOTLAND'S NATIONAL FOOTBALL STADIUM

EDM number 973 in 1990-91, proposed by Harry Ewing on 17/06/1991.

That this House expresses its regret that as a result of the indication by the Secretary of State for Scotland that no government funding would be made available to help refurbish Hampden Park, Scotland's National Stadium will no longer host the great national and international football matches which it has hosted with expertise over very many years; further recalls with nostalgic pleasure the great football events at Hampden down through the years, the many fine players from many countries who have displayed their fine skills to the appreciation of the discerning Scottish football fan and, with few exceptions, the outstanding sportsmanship displayed both on and off the park; and further pays tribute to the residents in the area of Hampden who with good humour and tolerance have added to these great football occasions, and to Queen's Park Football Club, without whose willing and enthusiastic co-operation the wonderful heritage of Hampden Park could not have been built.

This motion has been signed by a total of 28 MPs.
