Skelmersdale Jobs

EDM number 128 in 1991-92, proposed by Ian McCartney on 12/11/1991.

That this House views with concern and dismay that the Government-supported New Towns Commission has recently announced rents rises of between 180 per cent, and 300 per cent, for small businesses in the unemployment blackspot of Skelmersdale; calls upon Sir Neil Shields, Chairman of the New Towns Commission to visit Skelmersdale to initiate talks with local councillors and representatives of the 40 businesses threatened with redundancies as a direct consequence of the rent rises; and congratulates county councillor Frank Mckenna and Mr Colin Pickthall for their support for 40 small local businesses in Skelmersdale, whose existence is being threatened by the imposition of massive rent rises by the Tory dominated New Towns Commission.

This motion has been signed by a total of 20 MPs.
