Arrow Books Ltd And The Publication Of Juliette By The Marquis De Sade
EDM number 133 in 1991-92, proposed by Ann Winterton on 12/11/1991.
That this House deplores the publication by Arrow Books Ltd of the novel, Juliette, by the Marquis de Sade; notes with deep concern that this book both advocates and glorifies the torture, rape and murder of babies, children and adult men and women, including the inmates of prisons, and patients in mental hospitals; shares the view of leading authorities, such as Professor Steiner, Fellow of Churchill College, Cambridge, that this graphic description of incest, cannibalism and other depravity is filth of a particularly ugly and dangerous kind; and hopes that the Crown Prosecution Service will take a decision to delay no longer the bringing of prosecutions against the publishers of this book.
