Mr David Duke And The Louisiana Governorship Election
EDM number 158 in 1991-92, proposed by Peter Hain on 13/11/1991.
That this House is dismayed by the notorious racist David Duke's expected victory in the election for the Governor of Louisiana on 16th November; notes with disgust Mr Duke's past membership of the Ku Klux Klan; believes Mr Duke's selling of neo-nazi pamphlets and copies of "Mein Kampf" from his office as late as 1989 as a member of the State legislature demonstrates his continued extreme racism and hostility to the democratic process; regrets that so many state and national politicians have left serious issues, like welfare dependency, to the manipulation of bigots like Mr Duke; and believing this individual unfit to hold office in a free society, urges voters in Louisiana to consign Mr Duke to the dustbin of history where he rightly belongs.
This motion has been signed by a total of 45 MPs, 1 of these signatures have been withdrawn.
