Durham British Rail Station (No 2)

EDM number 198 in 1991-92, proposed by John Cummings on 19/11/1991.

That this House notes that on the morning of 18th November, as on many similar occasions in the past, the honourable Member for Easington, having been assured by the staff of Newcastle British Rail Station at 8.05 a.m. and by the local radio at 8.30 a.m. that all InterCity trains to London from the North East were running on time, found to his dismay and to the anger of many passengers waiting at Durham Station at 8.31 a. m. that the 8.43 a.m. train from Durham had left Edinburgh 48 minutes late; further notes that the honourable Member for Easington and the long-suffering passengers at Durham are sick and tired of non-information, misinformation, downright lies and duplicity, which is regularly churned out by senior management at Newcastle Station, and of their utter contempt of paying passengers using Durham Station but are most grateful and appreciative of the staff at Durham Station who are ignored and isolated by senior staff at Newcastle Station; and calls upon the Chairman of British Rail to dismiss those senior management who are responsible for such a disgraceful state of affairs.
