Mirror Group Newspapers (No.2)

EDM number 211 in 1991-92, proposed by Rupert Allason on 19/11/1991.

That this House notes that the Political Correspondent of the Daily Mirror, Mr Alastair Campbell, contributed to an editorial in the Daily Mirror published on 23rd October 1991 in which it was alleged that the honourable Member for Torbay had abused parliamentary privilege and sought to 'exploit parliamentary privilege' by raising an issue in the chamber in which he had an interest; specifically that he shares a literary agent with the American author Mr Seymour Hersh; expresses concern that despite being given the proof that this allegation is wholly untrue, and being presented with the opportunity to apologise and withdraw the charge, neither Mr Alistair Campbell nor his editor, Mr Richard Stott, have chosen to do so; and urges the Daily Mirror's editorial staff to accept its responsibilities, reply to the letters of complaint it has so far ignored and print the necessary retraction without further procrastination.
