EDM number 278 in 1991-92, proposed by Bob Dunn on 27/11/1991.
That this House welcomes the initiative by National Power to break British Rail's monopoly in freight service by running its own coal delivery trains; urges the Chairman of British Rail to allow them to use British Rail's tracks and hopes that other industries will follow National Power's lead; congratulates Her Majesty's Government for providing the conditions enabling the service to be run; and calls on the Government to implement legislation to break British Rail's monopoly to allow other businesses to run similar services and enable them to benefit from the ending of the present restrictive practices.
