Conduct Of The Hon Member For Eastbourne And The Newhaven-Dieppe Ferry Link

EDM number 353 in 1991-92, proposed by Tim Rathbone on 06/12/1991.

That this House, noting the interest in the Newhaven-Dieppe ferry link recently expressed by the honourable Member for Eastbourne, expresses concern at what appears to be questionable use of a parliamentary motion to provide political support for his fellow county councillors and his party's environmental researcher in the House of Commons, its leader of Lewes District Council and its parliamentary candidate for the Lewes constituency in which Newhaven is located; affirms the continuing importance of the long-established and well-used Newhaven-Dieppe ferry service; further notes the interest and support already shown by the Secretary of State for Transport and by other Ministers in the past, by the Depute for Dieppe, by the manager of Sealink - SNAT, by British trades unions and by local authorities in England and France; and commends the efforts to save the ferry service by the Chief Executive of Lewes District Council and his officers over many years, most of which have been under Conservative council control.
