United States Involvement In Vietnam

EDM number 407 in 1991-92, proposed by George Galloway on 16/12/1991.

That this House remembers that on 11th December 1961, 30 years ago, the United States government made its first military commitment to the government of South Vietnam, sending two companies of 36 Shawnee helicopters, 370 officers and men of the United States Army, together with Seven T28 trainer combat plants to Saigon, and that 11 years later the United States was forced to withdraw leaving Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos in bloody ruin with more than two million people dead and countless others maimed by chemical and other bombardment, that, in revenge, the United States has maintained a punitive economic blockade against Vietnam and failed to make good its promised aid to reconstruct Vietnam, in marked contrast to its aid to post World War II Germany and Japan and that this blind hatred of the people of Vietnam has led to the monstrosity of Western support for the Khmer Rouge; and predicts that this anniversary will be little noticed in the new world order.

This motion has been signed by a total of 22 MPs.
