Mortgage Repossessions (No.2)

That this House is appalled by the fact that, according to recent statistics published by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation, the increase in interest rates coupled with the collapse of the housing market has seen mortgage arrears and repossessions rise so high that now nearly one in 10 home buyers are two or more months in arrears with their mortgage, with thousands facing repossession this year; and calls upon the Government to classify the situation as an emergency and introduce immediately legislation to stop repossessing of homes until a solution is found.
