Steel Production (Scotland)
EDM number 552 in 1991-92, proposed by Terry Fields on 23/01/1992.
That this House views with concern the closure of Ravenscraig Steel Works as part of a concerted campaign to destroy completely steel production in Scotland; applauds the stand taken by the Iron and Steel Trades Confederation and other trades union stewards at Dalzell, to retain their plant and capacity despite intimidation and character assassination by organisations and individuals outside of Dalzell; calls upon Her Majesty's Government to seriously consider and continue support for the Dalzell option and to intervene with British Steel to stop the closure of Ravenscraig steel making which is the policy of the Iron and Steel Trades Confederation and other trades unionists at Dalzell, as a crucial measure to retain steel production and prevent the ongoing devastation and destruction of the Scottish economy.
