PUBLIC CONSULTATION, THE PRIME MINISTER, & THE CITIZEN'S CHARTER

EDM number 649 in 1991-92, proposed by Terry Lewis on 11/02/1992.

That this House notes with alarm that the public consultation into the Greater Manchester western and northern relief road has been delayed, yet again, by the Roads Minister to 'later this year'; deplores the continuing uncertainty being suffered by communities in the possible routes of the proposed road; reiterates its support for the residents' groups established in the parliamentary constituencies of Worsley, Davyhulme, Bury North and Bury South, to fight the scheme; believes, however, that the further delay is not unrelated to the date of the general election; nonetheless calls upon the Prime Minister, if his Citizen's Charter proposals have any credibility, at all, to halt this damaging proposal now, or at least start the public discussions before polling day.

This motion has been signed by a total of 20 MPs.
