That this House welcomes the proposal to replace search and rescue Wessex helicopters with Sea King helicopters which have a superior range and night flying ability; notes that the helicopter flight facility at RAF Leuchars was designed and built specifically for Sea King helicopters; and further notes that in 1991 165 rescue missions were carried out by the helicopters of B Flight and that 104 people were picked-up, 88 rescued and 16 dead, which is evidence of the vital importance of the need to retain the helicopter flights and replace the Wessex aircraft with Sea Kings.
