Palaeontology

EDM number 814 in 1991-92, proposed by Menzies Campbell on 05/03/1992.

That this House condemns the proposals of the British Geological Survey to discontinue the greater part of the study of fossils in its Edinburgh office on the retirement of the two remaining palaeontologists on the staff and to transfer all but 20,000 of some 230,000 specimens to its headquarters in Nottingham as representing a major setback to the operation of the British Geological Survey in Scotland; and calls upon the British Geological Survey not to implement these proposals which would constitute a major inhibition on the study of geology in Scotland.

This motion has been signed by a total of 11 MPs.
