Labour Candidate For Bristol West

EDM number 834 in 1991-92, proposed by Jonathan Sayeed on 09/03/1992.

That this House recognises that the officially selected Labour candidate for Bristol West has been disowned by Bristol City Council Labour Party in that Councillor Hedley Bashforth has had the whip withdrawn because he failed to adhere to national Labour Party policy, and that despite a letter from the right honourable Member for Bristol West to the Right honourable Member for Islwyn, the Leader of the Opposition, to which there has been no reply, there has been no action at a national level to drop him as a candidate; and therefore presumes that he has the full approval of other Labour candidates in the City of Bristol and of the leadership of the Labour Party.

This motion has been signed by a total of 4 MPs.
