Timeshare

EDM number 1056 in 1992-93, proposed by Alan W Williams on 10/12/1992.

That this House notes the passing of the Timeshare Act 1992; further notes the comments of the Institute of Trading Standards Administration that the Timeshare Act represents 'too little, too late'; believes that protection must be extended to holiday-makers embarking on timeshare contracts throughout the European Community; further believes that this can best be achieved through the adoption of Community-wide legislation; and calls on the United Kingdom Government, within the last few days of its Presidency of the Community, to encourage Community-wide legislation on timeshare to include an extended cooling-off period of 28 days on contracts to allow those holidaying in other countries to gain access to legal advice, the mandatory supply of a prospectus outlining that the timeshare development had received the requisite planning permission, the stricter control of marketing and advertising of timeshare and the mandatory protection of advanced payments.
