Policing In Strathclyde

EDM number 112 in 1992-93, proposed by Adam Ingram on 20/05/1992.

That this House notes with concern the recently published report of Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary on Strathclyde Police which highlights 'the most unfortunate position that the people of Strathclyde find themselves in compared with other regions throughout the United Kingdom in terms of the lack of additional officers being recruited to deal with increased demands' and draws attention to the stark contrast between members of Strathclyde Police and of other forces throughout the country in terms of work load which has an obvious impact on the quality of service which can be provided; recognises that this disgraceful state of affairs largely exists because of 'external constraints' on the police authority; and calls upon the Government to provide sufficient resources to the Police Authority to enable the police to carry out their essential role of tackling crime and protecting citizens within the Region.
