Post Office Counters Ltd

EDM number 1200 in 1992-93, proposed by Dafydd Wigley on 20/01/1993.

That this House expresses its lack of confidence in the senior management of Post Office Counters Ltd with regard to the manner in which their recently announced reorganisation proposals have been formulated; notes that commitments given both to Government ministers and to honourable Members of this House have been broken; regrets that proper consultation with all interested parties did not take place prior to decisions being taken on the reorganisation; condemns the manner in which employees have been treated, and the pretence that no compulsory redundancy is implicit in the proposals; rejects the fragmentation of the service in Wales and the down grading of the offices at Bangor and Bridgend, with the consequent failure to provide a structure which meets national, community and linguistic needs of Wales; and calls for the withdrawal of the reorganisation proposals, and for the whole issue to be reconsidered on a basis of the provision of services as needed by customers and communities, not on the narrow profit motivated principles which have underpinned this disastrous and unwanted reorganisation.
