Prayers In The Chamber

EDM number 1431 in 1992-93, proposed by Tony Banks on 18/02/1993.

That this House notes the usually small attendance of honourable and Right honourable Members at Prayers each day; believes that even amongst those attending devotions there are a number whose concern is more to do with a seat in the Chamber than a place in heaven; considers that in a society made up of believers in many religions and none, it is inappropriate to hold Church of England prayers alone; further notes the great pressure amongst honourable and Right honourable Members to intervene at Question Time; and resolves to end the period allocated for prayers and to add the time to Question Time to Ministers.

This motion has been signed by a total of 17 MPs, 1 of these signatures have been withdrawn.
