CHILDCARE FACILITIES AND Hon.MEMBERS'STAFF
EDM number 1443 in 1992-93, proposed by Keith Vaz on 23/02/1993.
That this House welcomes the initial investigation by the Accommodation and Works Committee of the House into provision of childcare facilities for honourable Members and staff at Westminster, and recognises the importance of finding suitable accommodation for such a scheme as soon as possible; calls upon the authorities of the House to consider the full impact of financial and tax implications for honourable Members and staff who would use such a scheme in Westminster; would welcome a decision to include within this provision a scheme to provide financial help for childcare for honourable Members' staff who work in constituencies to prevent discrimination against staff who work just as hard as staff in Westminster; and further calls upon the Chancellor of the Exchequer to recognise in his forthcoming Budget that childcare is not a perk, and that parents who use childcare facilities should be eligible for tax relief on the cost of basic childcare.
