Investigations Into Northern Ireland

EDM number 1487 in 1992-93, proposed by Harry Barnes on 26/02/1993.

That this House believes that any investigation of Northern Ireland by representatives of the United States or any other governments has to be rigorously open-minded and sensitive to the complexities and nuances of Northern Ireland politics if it is to carry any credibility in Northern Ireland and more widely; further believes that such an investigation should seek the views of the widest range of public opinion, including organisations such as New Consensus as well as the trade unions in Northern Ireland; and recognises the value to such investigations of the Initiative '92 Opsahl Commission which is seeking views on the way forward for Northern Ireland via written submissions and oral hearings.

This motion has been signed by a total of 17 MPs.
