General Motors And Animal Testing
EDM number 1533 in 1992-93, proposed by Gerry Steinberg on 04/03/1993.
That this House is delighted that General Motors took EDM 643 (General Motors and Animal Experiments) seriously, which pointed out the company's involvement with cruel and unnecessary crash tests on animals; notes that US General Motors issued a statement on 26th January to say it no longer uses animals in trauma tests and does not plan to do any trauma testing in the future, and that as a result of this statement, the United States animal welfare group, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, has said it will immediately end its dispute with the company; congratulates Vauxhall Motors Ltd. for raising the issue with its US partner; and calls for an end to the barrage of abuse being flung at staff at Vauxhall, who are backed by General Motors, but who have not used animal testing for their own research purposes.
