European Community Energy-Carbon Tax

EDM number 1846 in 1992-93, proposed by Simon Hughes on 22/04/1993.

That this House calls on the Government to drop its opposition to the proposed EC energy-carbon tax, a more effective form of energy tax than VAT on domestic fuel, which is to be considered at the Luxembourg Energy and Environment Ministers Council on 23rd April and which, together with other appropriate measures such as efficiency standards for appliances and vehicles and increased research and development on renewables, would significantly reduce emissions of carbon dioxide.
