Teaching Of English And The Curriculum Council For Wales

EDM number 1851 in 1992-93, proposed by Paul Murphy on 26/04/1993.

That this House congratulates the Curriculum Council for Wales on its work and, specifically, on its recent report on the teaching of English; calls upon the Secretary of State for Wales to adopt its recommendations in Wales; urges the Secretary of State for Education to make the report widely available to teachers and educationalists in England; regrets that the English Curriculum Council did not adopt the more flexible and consensual approach of the Welsh body; and concludes that the Secretary of State for Wales's near-rejection of the Welsh report is further evidence of how little interest he is now showing in Welsh affairs, since discussion of the Cabinet reshuffle has begun.

This motion has been signed by a total of 24 MPs.
