EDM number 2077A1 in 1992-93, proposed by George Gardiner on 08/06/1993.

leave out from 'House' to end and insert 'welcomes the interest shown by the American company Sprint in bidding to operate the Government Telecommunications Network; notes the US Government's satisfaction with Sprint's work on the Government's Federal Telecommunications System 2000, a 10 year multi-billion dollar contract, which was initiated ahead of schedule and provided services at prices below the best commercial rates available today; notes also Sprint's recognition of the rights of its staff to choose to join or not to join a trade union and that 26 per cent. of Sprint's employees belong either to the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers or Communications Workers of America; further notes the results of the review of the company's ethical policies, which reported that Sprint's commitment to ethical behaviour is strong; deplores the scurrilous accusations made against Sprint by American trade unions seeking to recruit members from among its staff; and calls on the Government to judge Sprint's bid fairly, alongside others to ensure that the Government Telecommunications Network operates at low cost and maximum efficiency.'.
