Stirling Council Logo

EDM number 2157 in 1992-93, proposed by Alex Salmond on 15/06/1993.

That this House views with dismay the decision by Stirling District Council to replace Robert the Bruce as its official logo at a cost of ú20,000; believes that such a move does nothing to enhance the reputation of Stirling District; regrets the wasteful squandering of local tax payers' money for no useful purpose; is mindful of the significant contribution made to the local economy and tourist trade by Stirling's historic links with Bruce and Wallace; believes that the contempt shown for Scotland's history and heritage is typical of the behaviour of councillors who are more concerned with acting as the apologists for an anti-Scottish Government than looking after the interests of their local community; and calls on the honourable Member for Stirling to disown the comments of Provost Pat Greenhill who stated that the use of Robert the Bruce was 'no longer appropriate to the values of this council' and urges him to use his influence with his Tory colleagues, go homewards and persuade them to think again over this contemptible decision.
