Minerals Planning Guidance Note 6
EDM number 2167 in 1992-93, proposed by Nigel Jones on 16/06/1993.
That this House welcomes the publication of Minerals Planning Guidance (MPG) Note 6 as an improvement on existing guidance; especially welcomes references to sustainable development, resource efficiency, the encouragement of greater use of re-cycled aggregates and the proposed reduction in the 'landbank' of sand and gravel planning permissions from 10 to five years; opposes its shift of emphasis from existing quarries to 'Superquarries' based mainly on the West Coast of Scotland and in island communities; believes there should be a moratorium of further planning permissions to prevent further development of quarries in areas of unique landscape such as the Forest of Dean and the Cotswolds; and calls on Her Majesty's Government to pursue a policy of environmentally sustainable mineral extraction and transport.
