World Bank Proposals On Expanding Access To Bank Information

That this House notes the influential role played by the World Bank in funding development projects and structural adjustment in developing countries; notes also that the World Bank has been the subject of intense criticism from environmental and development organisations in developed and developing countries; believes that the quality of World Bank lending would be greatly improved if its operations were conducted in less secrecy; welcomes, therefore, the proposals of the World Bank management in the draft directive, Expanding Access to Bank Information and its discussion by the Board on 7th July; and urges Her Majesty's Government to support this directive.
