WOMEN'S HEALTH SERVICE IN LIVERPOOL

That this House is alarmed at the decrease in National Health Service provision for women in Liverpool; notes that 111 beds have already been cut and a further 133 are proposed, leaving only a core of 104 acute beds, 22 gynaecology day beds and 37 cots for premature babies in the otherwise to be welcomed new women's hospital; believes that the planned 100 bed hospital hotel, to be run by Scandinavian Airlines and in which patients are patients are 'guests' and nurses are replaced by 'stewards', does not compensate for the cuts in service; and calls on the Secretary of State for Health to give a categorical assurance that Liverpool women will not be charged for any National Health Service hospital stay.
