Tax On Post Office

EDM number 2372 in 1992-93, proposed by Dennis Turner on 21/07/1993.

This House condemns the Government for proposing swingeing increased tax on the Post Office which will increase this compulsory cash levy by 250 per cent. in 1993-94 from ú68 million to ú181 million and by a similar sum in 1994-95; and fully supports the Post Office Users' Council in their opposition to this outrageous demand which wil lower service quality, reduce capital investment and create a significant increase in stamp prices.
