Sultan Of Brunei
EDM number 2390 in 1992-93, proposed by Nigel Griffiths on 22/07/1993.
That this House condemns the High Commission of Brunei Darussalam for failing to honour payments owed to the landlords of properties rented by their students; notes that the High Commissioner fails to reply to letters from solicitors and honourable Members, that the promissory notes issued by the High Commissioner in the name of the Sultan of Brunei are worthless, and that, in spite of the Sultan of Brunei being the world's richest man, his Commission fails to honour securities they have given to creditors; warns all universities and higher education institutions of the financial unreliability of the Commission in supporting students from Brunei; and calls on the Sultan of Brunei to meet debts owed by his Commission to landlords and other debtors in the United Kingdom.
