Saudi Arabian Government (No.2)

EDM number 2433 in 1992-93, proposed by Jeff Rooker on 27/07/1993.

That this House is mindful of the grief of the families of Haj pilgrims from around the world upon the passing of the third anniversary of the Mecca Tunnel disaster on 2nd July 1990 but remains displeased that the government of Saudi Arabia continues to be unable to account for three missing British citizens, Abdul Whaid Khan and Munawar Sultana, husband and wife from Birmingham, and Nadir Ali Khan from Nelson, Lancashire, after three years; is concerned that the government of Saudi Arabia refuses to accept any responsibility for the disaster; is appalled that no updated list of casualties has ever been produced since a figure of 1,426 pilgrims killed was issued the day after the disaster and that no scheme of compensation has been arranged by the government of Saudi Arabia; and is aware that local estimates of those killed to be in excess of over 3,000 pilgrims have never been refuted by the Saudi Arabian government and that the refusal of the Saudi Arabian government to show the slightest concern for the victims and their fmilies continues to give great offence to people of all religions.
